How to change your router admin password

Change the credential that opens router settings—not the password that joins Wi-Fi.

Safety boundary: Use these instructions only for a router or network you own or are authorised to manage. Never enter a router password, Wi-Fi password, SSID, serial number or private network data into Router Portal.
Quick answer: Sign in locally, open Administration, System, Management or Security, replace the admin password, save and sign in again.

Before you start

  • Confirm the authorised network.
  • Know the current credential or use recovery.
  • Keep ISP setup details and a private recovery record.

Find the setting

Look for Administration, System, Management, Security, Account or Router Password. Do not confuse Wireless/Wi-Fi settings with administrator settings.

Save and verify

  1. Create a long, unique passphrase.
  2. Save/apply and expect the session to reload.
  3. Sign in again with the new password.
  4. Update a private password manager.

If missing or forgotten

Use model lookup, the official manual and reset warning before any destructive action.
